Day Thirty-six
Today we begin the process of applying meditative skills to our day-to-day life. We will take a similar approach in this process to that taken when putting forth a scientific theory. In this way, we can yield the same predictable approach used in the practice of meditation itself.
Today, we begin with step one—observe. There are many ways to observe life, but what I want to introduce this week is the art of using meditation to improve life.
Before we can enact any real change in our lives, we must begin by taking an honest look at where we are. If we can observe what is not working in our lives, we can open ourselves to create a new outcome. The most important thing is to do it without judgment.
For your practice today, I would like you to observe your life. Notice what you would like to improve most. Even if you feel you cannot improve the situation, I still want you to use it for your practice. In fact, the more impossible it seems, the better. Take this opportunity to reach for the stars.
Begin your practice by doing your Stage One, Two, and Three Practices for 5 – 10 minutes. Once you have completed your Stage Three practice, spend another 10 minutes contemplating your life. What did you observe in your life? What would you most like to change? Write a short statement of the condition you would like to improve below.
This response will be awarded full points automatically, but it can be reviewed and adjusted after submission.
Day Thirty-seven
As we continue the practice of contemplative living, I would like you to begin with your early stages of practice. It’s essential you begin today’s exercise with your early meditation practices. Once you’ve completed your Stage Three Practice, look at the answer you wrote to yesterday’s exercise.
Close your eyes for a moment and imagine a door in front of you. As you prepare to open the door, ask yourself the question, “What’s available to me in this situation that I am not seeing?” Once you pass through the door, record everything you see on the other side.
Again, you don’t want to ask life-transforming questions from what you already know. In this exercise, you are stimulating the part of the brain that “knows” to reach beyond what it knows for answers that lie in what “you don’t know and have never been.”
Remember not to answer from what you think you are not seeing. Allow the answer to emerge from your subconscious mind. You may or may not understand what comes. Don’t worry about that. For today, you are merely following the practice; ask the question. Open the door and write what you experience on the other side.
This response will be awarded full points automatically, but it can be reviewed and adjusted after submission.
Day Thirty-eight
Sometimes, as we enter the world of contemplation, the vision is beyond anything we can imagine. If the answer you received gives you a clear path, excellent, use it for today’s practice. If it doesn’t, do worry. I have an exercise that will help.
To begin, for those of you who aren’t quite sure of your destination, I would like your Stage Four practice today is to ask another contemplative question. Look back at the original problem you observed in your life and ask the question, “If it weren’t this way if I didn’t have this problem, how would that look?”
For those of you who see the picture of where you’re going, write the same. How would your life look if you were able to achieve your vision?
This response will be awarded full points automatically, but it can be reviewed and adjusted after submission.
Day Thirty-nine
As I’ve mentioned throughout the course, articulation is the most critical part of meditation. To use meditation as a form of escape from life is nowhere near as powerful as using it to make our life a place that doesn’t require an escape.
Today, I would like you to focus on articulating your new information into existence. To do this, I recommend existing in the concept of ‘living in service to the place you would like to go.’ To do this, I would like you to ask yourself the question, “What one thing can I do today to live in service to my vision?”
It doesn’t need to be a big thing. You could make a list or send an e-mail. Just take one small step toward your vision. Articulate your meditation in your life.
This response will be reviewed and graded after submission.
Day Forty
Before continuing the practice to the next stage, I would like to pause and consider another aspect of contemplation that becomes available to us.
Sometimes, as we challenge the rules of the pre-meditative mind, the current systems will resist. Not everyone will experience this, but I do want to address it for those who do. I also want to give you another opportunity to address the issue of your life with a meditative mind.
Is there resistance in your mind? Are there reasons you do not believe this new possibility will prove to be true? Are there others in your life who have attempted to dissuade you from this newfound discovery? Is there anything in society telling you this can’t be true?
If anything is resisting the possibility in either your mind or the minds of others, I would like you to take today to disprove their theories. Think of every argument, and with each, ask yourself the question, “What is this argument not seeing about this new possibility?”
This response will be awarded full points automatically, but it can be reviewed and adjusted after submission.
Day Forty-One
As we continue into the final part of our practice, we get an opportunity to experience real contemplation. Contemplation is an act of awareness, not action. Again, it is best to think of what you’ve received as information, not instruction.
Your current state of consciousness does not have the full ability to bring the vision to fruition. To continue contemplation, the best way to approach it is to keep contemplating it.
To do this practice, we’re going to bring everything together for a complete picture of the possibility meditation holds for you. The life of a master isn’t one that never faces difficulty. It is one that takes a meditative approach to difficult. A life master’s approach to daily practice might look something like this:
Through following this formula, you gain the ability to change the way you interact with life. You have the tools to face every difficulty and live in a place of expanding enlightenment.
What is your practice? Join together all you have learned through the stages of this course. Create a clear path for steps one through four and write them below.
As you continue beyond the course, don’t forget to play in different meditation possibilities.
ce? How do you define yourself? What is your role? Where is your power?
This response will be awarded full points automatically, but it can be reviewed and adjusted after submission.
Day Forty-two
Today, as we enter the last day of the course, I would like you to consider what is possible for you as you consider bringing these practices into your life. Remembering that meditation exists to expand our existence to make it better. If the meditation practice we use doesn’t improve our experience of life, we must question the practice.
Do the practices you’ve learned in this course feel like meditation to you? Does your life feel more meditative engaging in meditation? What effect has this course had on your meditation practice?
Write your answers below and think about how you would like to continue:
In whatever way you decide to move forward, I wish you tremendous success on your journey.
This response will be awarded full points automatically, but it can be reviewed and adjusted after submission.
